Principal’s Message

Thank you to everyone for an amazing first two days of school. It was wonderful to have our students back in the hallways and classrooms. We spent some time together as a whole school on Wednesday going over important information to help us start the year off strong. We reviewed our core values: Respect- for ourselves, for others, and for our school. We discussed how these values guide all of our decision-making processes. If the answer is no to does this show respect for myself, my classmates, or my classroom- students should make an alternate choice. We also discussed a few school rules that were covered in the family handbooks that were sent out in August.

  • Cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed in school. If a student brings either device to school, they must be silent and in backpacks or lockers until dismissal.

  • We want our students to make sure that they are taking safety drills seriously and act respectfully. I shared that being quiet is a must so that they can hear the directions of adults in these situations.

  • We are asking all squishies, stuffed animals, and toys to be kept at home this year. If there is a specific reason your student needs one of these items, please reach out to their teacher and our guidance counselor, Ms. Och.

  • Gum is not allowed at school. Students will be asked to spit gum out if they are seen chewing it at school.

We also discussed how student voice is so important at SBS and the different opportunities the students have to share their voice.

  • Student liaisons will be selected from each homeroom multiple times a year to share their feedback.

  • Students are able to nominate both staff and students into the Husky Hall of Fame.

  • Student surveys will help us understand students' perspectives of our school and ways to make it better.

Next week, we look forward to seeing our parents and guardians at our Back to School Night on Tuesday, the 8th from 6:30-8:30pm.  Please find the schedule of presentations here

Flyers with information about picture day were sent home today with students.  Picture Day will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd.

In honor of 9/11, we encourage students to wear red, white and blue on Friday the 11th.

The PTO is once again hosting a Family Games Night for 4th grade students and their families.  To sign up, please use this link.

We are looking forward to an amazing year! Reach out with any questions or concerns. Enjoy the long weekend.

School Reminders

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up I need your help! Once you have dropped your student off, please exit the line so that we can keep all cars moving and get our students in the school as efficiently as possible. Once the buses have exited the front parking lot, cars can pull into the front lot, but must park parallel along the sidewalk. Please DO NOT pull up facing the building. Cars can pull up toward the front entrance, let their student exit on the sidewalk, and then pull forward and out. We have seen far too many close calls with potential accidents recently. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety. All absences, tardies, and early dismissals should continue to be entered in Genesis.

Spirit Day Every Friday is Spirit Day!  Please have your child wear spiritwear or school colors - blue and white!

Sneakers

Sneakers are needed each day for recess.  My recommendation is for our students to wear sneakers every day. If they choose to wear other footwear, please be sure that they bring a pair of sneakers with them to school each day. Alternate activities will be used for students who do not have the correct shoes on.

PTO & BEF

Please support our amazing PTO (Branchburg PTO) and BEF.  With their support, we can accomplish amazing things at Stony Brook. Please visit our website via this link for the latest updates from the BEF on their efforts to support our district.
