Principal’s Message

Dear Stony Brook Families,

I hope everyone had a great week.

Mrs. Esso brought in the Organ Road Show this week for our fifth-grade students. Students got to view healthy lungs, heart, and brain. They were also able to see what lung disease looks like in comparison to healthy lungs, as well as what heart disease looks like. The students were also able to view a human brain. Thank you, Mrs. Esso, for bringing this program to our school.

Due to the snow day on Monday, our Parents as Partners Pack Chat has to be rescheduled. The new date will be Tuesday, March 3rd, from 1-2pm. We will be discussing transitions during this meeting. If you would like to attend, please complete this survey.

Yearbook sales will begin this Monday, March 2nd.  The cost is $20, and the flyer and ordering link can be found here.

Today, during our Husky Hall of Fame assembly, we discussed how our words and actions communicate things to other people. I asked the students to reflect on their recent words and actions and think about what they might be communicating to those around them. We talked about making a conscious effort to ensure that our words and actions match the kind of person we want to be. I also asked them to think outside of the classroom. This same philosophy applies to recess, the bus, and even outside of school activities. We hope that if our students are more aware of what they are communicating to others, the better our school community will be.

Have a wonderful weekend.

*If you have any gently used children's sweatpants, sizes 10-16, please consider donating them to SBS to support students who may get dirty during recess or lunch.
Donations help ensure students can stay comfortable and continue their day without disruption.  Please also be sure to pack a snack or two for your student each day that they can enjoy during snack time.  Thank you for your support!

School Reminders

Daily Snack(s) We need your help with packing daily snacks. We have emergency snacks in the office for when a student occasionally forgets their snack, but we are quickly running out of those emergency snacks at this time. Please be sure to pack a snack or two for your student each day that they can enjoy during snack time. Thank you.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up I need your help! Once you have dropped your student off, please exit the line so that we can keep all cars moving and get our students in the school as efficiently as possible. Once the buses have exited the front parking lot, cars can pull into the front lot, but must park parallel along the sidewalk. Please DO NOT pull up facing the building. Cars can pull up toward the front entrance, let their student exit on the sidewalk, and then pull forward and out. We have seen far too many close calls with potential accidents recently. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety.
Recess As the weather turns colder, please be sure to send your student in with warm clothes. We hope to get our students outside as much as possible even in the cooler weather.
Spirit Day Every Friday is Spirit Day!  Please have your child wear spiritwear or school colors - blue and white!
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

A friendly reminder, the free/reduced lunch application must be re-submitted each year and does not automatically renew. A copy of the application can be found on our district website at: https://www.branchburg.k12.nj.us/student-lunch-forms

The Math Olympiads contest is a challenging 5-part mathematics competition that includes students from all over the world. There are five 30-minute sessions, one per month, from November-March. A love of complex math questions is the only requirement to participate. Any Stony Brook student who is interested in entering the competition should see Mr. Gottshalk.

Sneakers

Sneakers are needed each day for recess.  My recommendation is for our students to wear sneakers every day. If they choose to wear other footwear, please be sure that they bring a pair of sneakers with them to school each day. Alternate activities will be used for students who do not have the correct shoes on.

PTO & BEF

Please support our amazing PTO (Branchburg PTO) and BEF.  With their support, we can accomplish amazing things at Stony Brook. Please visit our website via this link for the latest updates from the BEF on their efforts to support our district.

The PTO’s spiritwear sale is on-going and is another opportunity to help support them.
