Principal’s Message

Dear Stony Brook Families,

Bravo to our orchestra and band members under the direction of Mrs. Maroon and Mrs. Bontomase. Our musicians treated our community to a wonderful evening performance which was standing room only! Thank you to all of our families for coming out to celebrate our students. In addition to the evening performances, our students shared their talents with the whole school the following morning. The hard work our students have put into their performance was evident in how well they played together and the beautiful music that filled our all-purpose room.  I am looking forward to seeing their continued progress in the spring. 

This weekend, we are anticipating some winter weather. Please be safe during this winter storm. School closing information will be shared via Parent Square. Community News Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health hospital, will host its annual Cardiac Athletic Screening on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the hospital’s Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Department, located on the second floor of the main hospital on Rehill Avenue. The free screening is available to young athletes ages 14 to 18 and is designed to help identify potential risk factors for sudden cardiac arrest. Screenings will be conducted by RWJUH Somerset cardiologists, nurses, and technicians and include a cardiovascular history review, physical examination, blood pressure screening, body measurements, and an electrocardiogram (EKG). Echocardiograms will be performed when clinically indicated. The cardiac screening is free of charge, but advance registration is required. A parent or guardian must accompany each student. Daily Snack(s) We need your help with packing daily snacks. We have emergency snacks in the office for when a student occasionally forgets their snack, but we are quickly running out of those emergency snacks at this time. Please be sure to pack a snack or two for your student each day that they can enjoy during snack time. Thank you.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up I need your help! Once you have dropped your student off, please exit the line so that we can keep all cars moving and get our students in the school as efficiently as possible. Once the buses have exited the front parking lot, cars can pull into the front lot, but must park parallel along the sidewalk. Please DO NOT pull up facing the building. Cars can pull up toward the front entrance, let their student exit on the sidewalk, and then pull forward and out. We have seen far too many close calls with potential accidents recently. Thank you very much for your assistance.

The Math Olympiads contest is a challenging 5-part mathematics competition that includes students from all over the world. There are five 30-minute sessions, one per month, from November-March. A love of complex math questions is the only requirement to participate. Any Stony Brook student who is interested in entering the competition should see Mr. Gottshalk.
