Principal’s Message

Dear Stony Brook Families,

We need your help with packing daily snacks.  We have emergency snacks in the office for when a student occasionally forgets their snack, but we are quickly running out of those emergency snacks at this time. Please be sure to pack a snack or two for your student each day that they can enjoy during snack time. Thank you.

Stony Brook Spotlight winner

Our custodian, Mr. Rob, was recognized as our Employee Spotlight Winner. Mr. Rob demonstrates kindness each day.  Cares about our school community and works hard to keep Stony Brook looking its best. We are so grateful for his commitment to Stony Brook and are so happy he is a part of our team. Congrats Mr. Rob!

Our choir treated us to a wonderful winter-themed performance this week. The show demonstrated how hard our choir members work to put this together.  In addition to the evening concert, our students performed for our school family the following day and then traveled to Whiton to show off their singing skills. The performance was Snow Much Fun!

I want to send a huge thank you to our Stony Brook family and our former students who helped put up additional chairs for our choir performance. Your kindness did not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for your assistance. I’m so proud of our former Huskies, who pitched in!

I met with homeroom representatives today for our first round of student liaison meetings. I was wowed by their enthusiasm and ideas.  I asked them questions about what they love about Stony Brook, what makes them proud about being a student here, and what activities, ideas, and traditions they want to make sure remain a part of our school.  I also asked tough questions, such as how we can make our school better for our students, and what’s one small change that would make a big difference. Dr. Burton joined our meeting and listened to the suggestions of our students. They shared ideas about wanting comfier seating, gym space to use during indoor recess, more time to see friends in other classes, additional food choices in the cafeteria, and more autonomy in their schedule. I look forward to these continued conversations and opportunities for our students to share their voices.

Have a wonderful weekend!

School Reminders

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up I need your help! Once you have dropped your student off, please exit the line so that we can keep all cars moving and get our students in the school as efficiently as possible. Once the buses have exited the front parking lot, cars can pull into the front lot, but must park parallel along the sidewalk. Please DO NOT pull up facing the building. Cars can pull up toward the front entrance, let their student exit on the sidewalk, and then pull forward and out. We have seen far too many close calls with potential accidents recently. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety.
Recess As the weather turns colder, please be sure to send your student in with warm clothes. We hope to get our students outside as much as possible even in the cooler weather.
Spirit Day Every Friday is Spirit Day!  Please have your child wear spiritwear or school colors - blue and white!
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

A friendly reminder, the free/reduced lunch application must be re-submitted each year and does not automatically renew. A copy of the application can be found on our district website at: https://www.branchburg.k12.nj.us/student-lunch-forms

The Math Olympiads contest is a challenging 5-part mathematics competition that includes students from all over the world. There are five 30-minute sessions, one per month, from November-March. A love of complex math questions is the only requirement to participate. Any Stony Brook student who is interested in entering the competition should see Mr. Gottshalk.

Sneakers

Sneakers are needed each day for recess.  My recommendation is for our students to wear sneakers every day. If they choose to wear other footwear, please be sure that they bring a pair of sneakers with them to school each day. Alternate activities will be used for students who do not have the correct shoes on.

PTO & BEF

Please support our amazing PTO (Branchburg PTO) and BEF.  With their support, we can accomplish amazing things at Stony Brook. Please visit our website via this link for the latest updates from the BEF on their efforts to support our district.

The PTO’s spiritwear sale is on-going and is another opportunity to help support them.
