Principal’s Message
Dear Stony Brook Families,
It was lovely to see all the festive holiday spirit our students and staff brought this week.
Winter break is almost upon us, which means we will be ushering in 2026 very soon. As I reviewed report cards over the last week, it is evident that our students have a lot to be proud of. It is impressive how much has been accomplished in four months. Although the report cards show academic successes and skills that students are improving upon, it is important for them to recognize something in themselves that they are proud of. They have worked hard, formed friendships, taken risks, and succeeded in navigating many challenges. We are proud of all that has been accomplished and look forward to all we have left to celebrate in the next two-thirds of the year.
Parents that are dropping off and picking up, I need your help! Once you have dropped your student off, please exit the line so that we can keep all cars moving and get our students in the school as efficiently as possible. Once the buses have exited the front parking lot, cars can pull into the front lot, but must park parallel along the sidewalk. Please DO NOT pull up facing the building. Cars can pull up toward the front entrance, let their student exit on the sidewalk, and then pull forward and out. We have seen far too many close calls with potential accidents recently. Thank you very much for your assistance.
Along with colder weather, January brings our first musical performances of the year. The orchestra and band concerts are on January 21st at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Our choir will also be performing on January 14th at 6:30 pm. Although these events are proud moments for the parents and families of our students, we would love to see other members of our school family attend as well. Supporting others as they show the different ways they shine is a large part of demonstrating respect for others, as well as for our school.
Our Science Fair is scheduled for February this year, which is a bit earlier than usual. Ms. Hill is the advisor for the Science Fair. Please reach out to her with any questions. mhill@branchburg.k12.nj.us. Take a look at the flyer below and the website for additional information. We are looking forward to seeing our students share their interests and science projects with our community.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety. Recess As the weather turns colder, please be sure to send your student in with warm clothes. We hope to get our students outside as much as possible even in the cooler weather. Spirit Day Every Friday is Spirit Day! Please have your child wear spiritwear or school colors - blue and white! Free and Reduced Lunch ApplicationsA friendly reminder, the free/reduced lunch application must be re-submitted each year and does not automatically renew. A copy of the application can be found on our district website at: https://www.branchburg.k12.nj.us/student-lunch-forms
The Math Olympiads contest is a challenging 5-part mathematics competition that includes students from all over the world. There are five 30-minute sessions, one per month, from November-March. A love of complex math questions is the only requirement to participate. Any Stony Brook student who is interested in entering the competition should see Mr. Gottshalk.
