Principal’s Message

Dear Stony Brook Families,

We have a lot of exciting things planned over the next few months that allow students to explore some interests outside of their academics. Our science fair, which usually takes place in March, will happen in  February this year. Please use this link to access information about the fair, which will be organized by Ms. Madison Hill this year.

Safety patrol is ready to kick off officially under the guidance of Mrs. Forsyth and Ms. Decowski. We are hoping to start in December. Thank you to all of our students who volunteered to be a part of this program and help keep our school safe.

Our first music performances are happening in January. We cannot wait to hear their hard work in concert.

Chef Day with Maschios was a huge hit. The students loved a variety of flatbreads made by a guest chef for the day!

Our students are doing a great job racking up their acts of kindness for the BEF’s Raise Craze. This week, Ms. Binkley’s class was rewarded for their participation in the event. Three students were also recognized: RJ, Shiva, and Allison.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up to support the BEF’s event. It’s not too late to sign up. The BEF continues to support our students, staff, and schools through a variety of grants.  Already, this year, they sponsored the BMX assembly, which our students really enjoyed. Please consider signing up and helping the BEF while spreading kindness around our community. Mrs. Andresen’s class also did a class kindness project and repainted some of our outdoor rocks with messages that all students need to hear.

Painted rocks with positive messages and colorful designs rest on paper plates.

As the cold weather approaches, please be sure to send your student in with warm clothes. We hope to get our students outside as much as possible, but want them to be warm. Hats, gloves, and jackets can be worn for recess and extra time outside.

Have a wonderful weekend!

District Homework Free Night is coming up December 4th.  Please see the flyers below for details.

School Reminders
Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety.

PJ Collection SBS will be participating in the Scholastic Great Bedtime Pajama Drive.  We will be collecting brand new pj’s for all seasons.  PJ’s should also be full sets and can range in size from 3T to adult large. The collection will run through December 2nd. For more information, please see this flyer.

Recess As the weather turns colder, please be sure to send your student in with warm clothes. We hope to get our students outside as much as possible even in the cooler weather.

Spirit Day Every Friday is Spirit Day!  Please have your child wear spiritwear or school colors - blue and white!

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

A friendly reminder, the free/reduced lunch application must be re-submitted each year and does not automatically renew. A copy of the application can be found on our district website at: https://www.branchburg.k12.nj.us/student-lunch-forms

The Math Olympiads contest is a challenging 5-part mathematics competition that includes students from all over the world. There are five 30-minute sessions, one per month, from November-March. A love of complex math questions is the only requirement to participate. Any Stony Brook student who is interested in entering the competition should see Mr. Gottshalk.

Sneakers

Sneakers are needed each day for recess.  My recommendation is for our students to wear sneakers every day. If they choose to wear other footwear, please be sure that they bring a pair of sneakers with them to school each day. Alternate activities will be used for students who do not have the correct shoes on.

PTO & BEF

Please support our amazing PTO (Branchburg PTO) and BEF.  With their support, we can accomplish amazing things at Stony Brook. Please visit our website via this link for the latest updates from the BEF on their efforts to support our district.

The PTO’s spiritwear sale is on-going and is another opportunity to help support them.
