Principal’s Message

Dear Stony Brook Families,

Happy Friday!

Our students loved visiting Whiton this week for the Dialed Action Sports assembly. A huge thank you to Ms. Stewart, from Whiton, who applied for a grant from the BEF. Thank you to the BEF for their support of this program. It was truly amazing. In addition to the high flying fun and incredible tricks, they talked about how any student can respond to conflict and reminded the students of three words to keep in mind when dealing with these types of situations: recognize, refuse and react. This applies to all types of student conflict.  The presenters wanted the students to recognize when someone is not treating them how they should be treated, refuse the interaction with a simple word, “Stop” and lastly react, find an adult to help them. This same format can be used in a variety of situations that our students can experience. Please talk to your students about these ideas and encourage them to utilize them.

Some of our staff even got in on the action!

A group of children sit on the ground, listening to adults speak outdoors.

Ms. Cook, Mrs. Schunk and Mr. Clark were brave participants! Thank you again to the BEF for this wonderful experience.

The PTO is hosting a Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 25th.  They have set up a bin at Stony Brook to collect candy. The bin can be found in the main entrance of the school. They have worked hard to set up a wonderful event for our families. Please support them with your attendance.

Halloween is right around the corner! Our parade will take place at 2:30.  If you are planning to take your student home from the parade, please be sure this information is entered into Genesis ahead of time. More information will follow next week with specific information

Please use this link to access information regarding Teacher and Educational Services Professional of the Year. We need the community's support for this program. Please encourage your students to submit nominations as well. The more information you provide in your nomination the better. Thank you for taking some time to do this.

We will be participating in a service learning project this year, Hope for Veterans, collecting personal care items.  This collection will begin on Monday, October 20th and conclude on November 10th.  Please see this flyer for full details.

The book fair will be held from November 10th through the 17th.  If you would like to volunteer during your students' library time, please use this linkhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D4CABAE23A4FE3-59178456-2025

Have a wonderful weekend. We will see you next week.

Important Reminders

Sneakers

Sneakers are needed each day for recess.  My recommendation is for our students to wear sneakers every day. If they choose to wear other footwear, please be sure that they bring a pair of sneakers with them to school each day. Alternate activities will be used for students who do not have the correct shoes on.

Dismissal Changes Please be sure to share changes to dismissal information with both your student’s homeroom teacher and SBSoffice@branchburg.k12.nj.us. This ensures that all students are dismissed correctly and allows us to ensure student safety.

Payschools

If you are interested in what your student is purchasing during lunch, you can access this information in PaySchools..  This can help you understand how often your student is purchasing lunch and/or snacks and help monitor their account balance. Log in to your account or create a new account here.
